In simple yet moving prose, Mukhtar tells of her brutal rape by four Pakistani men from her village, and her subsequent refusal to commit suicide as tribal custom demands. As her story becomes headline news around the world, Mukhtar courageously fights in court, receives help from other women and governments, and pursues her dream of opening up a school for the little girls and boys of her small village. She has turned a bitter time for herself into an inspiration for a better educated generation.
