This is the first of many novels by Agatha Christie to feature the amateur sleuth Miss Marple. Like Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple believes her knowledge of the types of people who commit crimes helps her solve the murder of Colonel Protheroe. Intricately plotted, with over 20 characters, it is a wonder that anyone would be able to guess whodunit before the mystery is revealed. Red herrings, fake confessions, and an impostor make this an interesting read.
