Newly released and a first book for this author, I have some mixed feelings. I get that it's her first, and I would cut her some slack, but it also wasn't my piece of cake. For anyone who likes politics and reading about a little girl that runs headfirst into decisions without thinking, this might be yours. The protagonist doesn't ever think things through, listen, and actually help in any way, shape or form. The romance was a little too choppy, and the whole introduction was nothing like what followed. It seemed like a twisted version of Red Queen, with less magic involved and more filler material. - @Siri of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library This book is a big disappointment for readers looking for a mix of dystopian and fantasy. A novel, naturally, relies on characters to progress the story and capture the reader’s emotions and attention. Anna, the main protagonist of this book, had no qualities worthy of attraction. She was bland, self-centered, annoying and infuriating. If the main character is neither relatable nor appealing, there is really nothing else left in the book to enjoy. Although many books are crafted in a way to make the reader hate characters, Eves does not play the game well. Even supporting characters were unrealistic and altogether, they all made rash decisions for no reason. This was a book I simply could not finish after reading such a splendid book as “Strange the Dreamer”. Despite strong potential, this book does not meet any standards!
