Crazy Messy Beautiful is a realistic love story that anyone can relate to one way or another. Carrie Arcos's writing is hard to put down, but by the end you will feel satisfied as if you have made 2 new friends. The story follows Neruda in one of his many attempts to search for a special girl to battle through the struggles of high school with. Being named after a renowned romantic poet, Neruda expected to be prosperous in his journey to find love. But through many broken hearts and one sided romances, he was humbled and accepted his questionable luck with women. He is a dedicated artist, who works hard to express all his emotions and thoughts through his works. The leading lady in this confused romance is Callie, who rims her eyes with eyeliner and trudges around in heavy black boots. She is the star of the school volleyball team with a hidden artistic talent that connects the two unexpectedly. As assigned project partners, both got to know each other with no strings attached for the purpose of the project. The 2 classmates built their relationship smoothly and quickly, soon they were willing to reveal different parts of themselves to each other. This lit up the dark, Neruda dissected his feelings for Callie and hence began the love story. This novel is full of rich imagery and I often found my breath being taken away as if the wondrous sights and ingenious art works were right in front of me. For an easy read that can sweep you into another world, I would highly recommend Crazy, Messy, Beautiful. -From teen L.G.
