Very well written, and an interesting read. The sections of the history and the suffering of the Scottish farmers being thrown off their lands in the Highland and the Isles is very powerful. However I am SO tired of the woman/sea/birth/healing trope. Once again in this book a traumatized woman is healed by the power of sea, the history of other women living by the sea, and by giving birth. In the last few years this has become a standard narrative and a go-to cliche.
