I expected 'Why Can't I Be You' to be 'chick lit' and/or a romantic comedy and while there are flashes of both, it is neither. I would actually call it a coming of age novel, because you can do so at any age There is a depth to 'Why Can't I Be You', an immense sadness to the back stories of the characters, a frenzy to their joy, a sense they are trying to work out who they are now after finally acknowledging from where they came and how hard it was to come through. The one big thing that impressed me with 'Why Can't I Be You' is that I could not figure out how it could possible end, let alone, end well. I saw no way out for any of the characters, yet they managed to come through on hope and possibility. 4.75 stars!
