Riley is having a hard time adjusting. She misses living on Earth and her sister. She is given a position has a Soul Catcher. She helps ghosts leave Earth. This is a fun and fast read. I can't wait to read the next book.

They say never to judge a book by its cover, and Radiance by Alyson Noël is a prime example of that rule. What I first suspected was to be some generic coming of age, drama, and/or romance novel given the cover containing a teenage girl in a field of flowers, soon evolved into a short and sweet novel I could literally not put down.
It’s the land of the dead! Journey with Riley and her faithful canine companion, Buttercup into the realm of the recently departed as they undertake their first assignment of the position known as a “Soul Catcher.” Watch as she clashes with her extremely dorky yet strangely attractive mentor, and learns what it’s like to truly feel *not* alive!
This novel offers quite a unique insight into the artist’s depiction of the afterlife, and also teaches the target demographic that death is real. Most depictions of the afterlife feature either a heaven full of angels, harps, and clouds, or a hell filled with torture, screaming, and fire. This is a really nice novel that breaks the traditional mold. Through this novel we also experience along with Riley what it means to move on (quite literally), and to be live your own life… or not life.
Overall I’d say this would be an excellent book for ages 12-10 (both genders), who need a bit of easing into dealing with darker novels with darker topics such as death. It contains some grave humour, but don’t be so quick to give it a burial! I rate Soul Catcher seven and a half departed souls out of ten.

i liked this book, i liked the world that it was set in, and i would probably read it again. i am thirteen, though, and i read at a level high above my age. i felt that this book, even though it was interesting, was targeted at a younger audience, maybe fourth or fifth grade.

Riley and her guide/teacher Bodhi do not get on very well causing a lot of friction between the two. Her first mission is to rid a castle in England of a ghost called The Radiant Boy who has been terrifying people who visit there for centuries while Riley and her attitude can't wait to go because this means she gets to go to the Earth plane again.
