"This heartfelt, fantastical story of a troubled, imaginative girl devoted to Alice in Wonderland explores the agonies of growing up as an outsider and the complexities of parenting. Phoebe's guilt-ridden mother and her perplexed husband initially see Phoebe's unusual behavior as signs of creativity, but with the help of an unconventional drama teacher, they soon realize that their daughter is in danger of falling 'through the looking glass.'"--Container.

This was a wonderful DVD story... I know so little about the syndrome little Phoebe has but the story was utterly gripping; and I grieved for the mother who watched as her young daughter begins to be isolated at school due to her 'differences'. I picked it because of Patricia Clarkson who is one of my favourite actresses and I was not disappointed in her small important role. The Principal was an idiot.

A good social conscious film that both adults and children can use to learn from.

Great performances, but you wonder what the point is, and the ending is a bit of a cheat. The description really doesn't explain this at all.

This film made me literaly wonder. How many kids are miss understood or ``Labeled`` just for being a little different. Its en amazing film, where you actualy see what a little different kids see. A GREAT FILM!

Elle Fanning is a great actress. The role she plays is very believable. This is a story of a young girl who is sinking further and further into an illness which no one wants to acknowledge. Her mother actually fires the pyschiatrist who diagnoses her. Then, finally, when the family can no longer hide, there is a straightforward look and exploration into the family's reaction to Phoebe's illness, including Phoebe's reaction. Great acting by Bill Pullman and Felicity Huffman. Well worth watching.

This movie was not only a great drama that explores topics that we as a society doesn't usually explore, but was also extremely well done with characters that were so well developed, believably human and real, and well acted! I would watch the movie again to soak up these characters (Phoebe's drama teacher, her mom, her sister, to name a few) in the movie and appreciate the acting that helped give these characters such wonderful dimension. :-)

Felicity Huffman gives an incredible performance as a mother in denial. Elle Fanning is terrific as Phoebe (and Alice!).

This movie illustrates how difficult a child's life can be when surrounded by people who don't know or understand what's really going on so they 'jump' to the wrong conclusions.
