"Vivian Forest has been out of the country a grand total of one time, so when she gets the chance to tag along on her daughter Maddie's work trip to England to style a royal family member, she can't refuse. She's excited to spend the holidays taking in the magnificent British sights, but what she doesn't expect is to become instantly attracted to a certain Private Secretary and his charming accent and unyielding formality. Malcolm Hudson has been the Queen's Private Secretary for years and has never given a personal, private tour...until now. He is intrigued by Vivian the moment he meets her and finds himself making excuses just to spend time with her. When flirtatious banter turns into a kiss under the mistletoe, things snowball into a full-on fling. Despite a ticking timer on their holiday romance, they are completely fine with ending their short, steamy fling come New Year's Day...or are they?"--

Sign me up for middle aged romance any day - and this one had the added benefits of being a couple of colour from two different countries. This was CLEVER on so many levels - from never saying who the Duke and Duchess are (so we fill them in...) to all the adventures they have. I always enjoy reading about people who love what they do, and this book was chock full of that. This is a real peach of a book, so do yourself a favour and take a bite.

As with all Guillory books, this one was absolutely delicious. The plot did feel a bit less built out than her other books, but I will never pass up an opportunity to spend more time in Guillory’s world of kind, funny people trying their best and thoughtfully examining the roles love and work play in our lives.

Good fun...and, unusually, a middle-aged romance heroine. I feel very seen.

I don't typically care for romance novels as I find most to be too superficial, although I do usually try read a holiday book each year, and most do include a romantic aspect. Without reservation, I can say that I'm thrilled that I happened upon this holiday book! I would classify this as a mature romance, not just because the main characters are in their 50's, but that the romance is one that isn't your typical "love at first sight, need to fall immediately into each other's arms, etc.", but rather it is more of a slower paced, thoughtful, and respectful kind of romance that grows with kindness and insight, rather than with drama. I absolutely loved it and found it very refreshing. I should mention that this book got mainly great reviews on Amazon, with the few poor reviews stating they would have enjoyed the book more if characters had been younger, as in other books by the author, and the pace had moved faster. It may be due to the fact that that I'm older, but I absolutely loved the book, both the romance between older adults and the slower pace. It was very refreshing and made me feel good for days!

Great romance with a "mature" main character. Loved it!

Review excerpt: "An extremely charming romance centered around two Black adults in their 50s who are thrown together during Christmas, 'Royal Holiday' is an easy book to jump into, even without having read other books in the series. All I had known was that the book was loosely inspired by a news story about Queen Elizabeth inviting the mother of Duchess Meghan to spend Christmas with the royals (which obviously launched a thousand squee ships of joy), and I didn’t feel lost at all inside the narrative despite not knowing the back stories of the other characters."

Royally enjoyed this new title from Jasmine Guillory. The setting in England -- using Sandringham and London -- added glamour and gave us a peep into royal holiday celebrations. Vivian is in her mid 50's and that is a nice change for middle-aged readers like me. Readers will find that the dilemmas Vivian and Malcolm help each other work through are authentic to the season they are in and lend some weight to a novel also heavy in holiday cheer.
