Good episodes. The character of doctor Blake is not always realistic but entertaining. A nice and different than usual set of household.

Quite enjoyable post WWII medical-detective work. The accents are mostly comprehensible, unlike some Aussie tv productions where we need the subtitles to follow the plot.

Dr. Blake is a rather melancholy, talented Police surgeon living with painful memories of his past and surrounded by interesting characters. A theme song reminiscent of the violin of Sherlock Holmes. Quite enjoyable crime mystery series. No heavy hard-to-decipher Aussie accents. Looking forward to seeind Season 2 & 3.

A completely addictive mystery series, on par with "A Place to Call Home". Features fascinating characters with sizzling on-screen chemistry, and intelligent dialogue with loads of wry humour. Highly recommended.

I have been watching on PBS for several months however by the time I knew about the show, it was already at season 3 and I could not figure out the relationships between Dr Blake and his housemates so I wanted to view the first season. Unfortunately, it didn't clarify anything. Nothing explained where the father is, how the housekeeper came to them. It doesn't really matter - the stories are good, the acting is okay but I don't find the character of Dr. Blake to be unlikeable and self-centered. Oh well, not every character can be pleasant, well-rounded and well-liked. I give this a B-.

An excellent series, well worth watching. Unlike current shows in this genre they are actually technically & scientifically accurate.

The first two episodes are quite believable, but with the 3rd and 4th episodes the problems of clues and discoveries become comedic in a disjointed way. How the surgeon becomes the protagonist leaves one somewhat bewildered as to what role police play in this example of Australian society. Similar difficulties with other series: Father Brown and Granchester are examples that deal with similar protagonist/police situations, but in a more believable relationship.

MacLachlan gives an average portrayal given the script he has. However, Nadine Garner is exceptional in the role of housekeeper. She exudes personality and her acting skills give every scene a heightened sense of drama. The series is worth watching just for her performance. Quite amazing.

Another good TV series from Australia! Characters are 3 dimensional and intriguing. Plots always provide food for thought, not dumbed-down or gratuitously violent as would be probable if it were made in the US. Also, American TV producers take note: not coarse or vulgar in dialog! I am very grateful to watch it on PBS, and then to borrow it from the SPL and re-watch it. Thanks.
