An enjoyable Melody Carlson book with wonderful characters (particularly the son, Jackson). However, I thought the ending was too abrupt and ridiculous. This brought my rating from a 4 1/2 to a 3 1/2. Can't understand why the editor didn't ask her to change that ending...

DNF @43%
2018; Revell

This gorgeous cover caught my eye right away, it seemed like the most perfect place to be in Winter during Christmas. I had enjoyed Carlson's Christmas novella last year (when I had requested this book) so decided to try it. I didn't get to it last year so I decided to read this one (and the latest Christmas novella Christmas in Winter Hill). I wanted to like this one, but had to DNF after 43%. I can take a lot cheesiness as I love romance and Hallmark movies, but this one was just too much for me. Check out some other reviews to see if this one is a fit for you!

This is the 16th book I've read written by Melody Carlson. Her contributions to the Grace Chapel Inn series have long been a favorite of mine. I've really laughed while reading and just plain felt good after finishing her other books, especially her Christmas novellas, written with heart and humor.

'A Christmas by the Sea' has a lot of heart. I wish I could more to say that's positive but it was also full of angst over lies, worry over money (neither of which make a 'bad' story) and an ending that infuriated me. That ending is so trite, so ridiculous and far too unworthy of Melody Carlson.

I'm giving 'A Christmas by the Sea' a generous 3 stars, C-

I leafed through this quickly and finished it in two sittings, mostly because it was somewhat predictable. Clean novel, no language or sex, faith-based.

This was such a great story about love and faith and what happens when you put both in the hands of God. When you feel down on your luck like the subject of this novel, and think that nothing else bad can happen, it does, and that's when the real magic of this story begins. But with a little friendship, a lot of prayer, and a great belief that good things can happen, a beautiful story unfolds and a happy ending follows that makes the heart believe that Christmas miracles can come true!
