With a new Beauty and the Beast movie hitting theaters in spring 2017, it's time to catch up on all things Beastly. Find out what it was like for the beast in Alex Flinn's contemporary retelling of the classic tale. This deluxe edition of the #1 New York Times bestselling Beastly includes the original Beastly text PLUS Lindy's 96-page secret diary from her time living in captivity with the beast with all the romance and edgy mystery of the original.

I am a beast.

A beast. Not quite wolf or bear, gorilla or dog but a horrible new creature who walks upright--a creature with fangs and claws and hair springing from every pore. I am a monster.

You think I'm talking fairy tales? No way. The place is New York City. The time is now. It's no deformity, no disease. And I'll stay this way forever--ruined--unless I can break the spell.

Yes, the spell, the one the witch in my English class cast on me. Why did she turn me into a beast who hides by day and prowls by night? I'll tell you. I'll tell you how I used to be Kyle Kingsbury, the guy you wished you were, with money, perfect looks, and the perfect life. And then, I'll tell you how I became perfectly . . . beastly.

This modern retelling of “Beauty and the Beast” follows Kyle Kingsbury, an arrogant highschool student who has thus far gotten ahead in life based on his looks. But all that changes when a fellow classmate, who is actually a witch, turns Kyle’s appearance beastly, and he will remain that way unless he can find someone to love him. Shunned from his father, he goes into isolation but he is drawn out by unexpected circumstances. This story fascinated me – with its elements of romance, strong emotions, and it seems very true to life in showing how it’s the person within that is beautiful. (submitted by SMC)

A modern retelling of Beauty and the Beast, puts snobby, wealthy privileged teenager, Alex, in his place. A witch disgusted by his treatment of a fellow student turns him into a hairy beast. Of course, we know how the story ends, he finds that there is more to life than wealth and good looks.

Not going to lie, this is the book that got me back into reading. I used to read a lot when I was younger, but now getting distracted by the internet, games etc. etc., I don't read as much anymore. This was the first book in a while that made me keep on reading and you just can't put it down once you start. Would definitely recommend to anyone that enjoys fairy tales and fantasy.

A modern twist on the original Beauty and the beast, Beastly was captivating from the start. The plot revolves around a teenage boy, Kyle, who has everything, from looks to money. But those same things become his enemy when a witch casts a spell on him because he is rude and depends on his looks for everything. The spell turns him into a hairy monster (like the beast from beauty and the beast) and because of this Kyle has to go into hiding, drop out of school, and live alone, unless he finds someone who can love him for who he is on the inside despite his hideousness. Kyle gives up hope until he sees Linda, a girl from his school. One day her father breaks into Kyle’s house and when Kyle catches him he trades his daughter for his freedom. The story then goes on about Kyle falling in love with Lindy, showing her who he really is, and learning important life lessons. Personally, I always loved beauty and the beast as a kid and I have seen many adaptations of it but nothing like this one. Both Linda and Kyle were very interesting and even with separate lives you could find how both of their lives were similar and how they were meant for each other. It was very well written and I didn’t feel like putting it down once I started. The author Alex Flinn really knows how to get the attention of her audience. I loved this book soooo much. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the modern beauty and the beast and I would also recommend other Alex Flinn books such as Towering.

This book has changed me and how I think of other people. I saw the movie after and I felt very sad due to the lack of information and the different ending.. I cried when I read the book. A very good read if love Romance, Magic, a little bit of Mystery.

A modern retelling of "Beauty and the Beast" from the point of view of the Beast, a vain Manhattan private school student who is turned into a monster and must find true love before he can return to his human form.

This book was really awesome. I originally thought that it would just be another common spin off of Beauty and the Beast but it wasn't! Flinn did an awesome job of taking the story line and developing it further. It was also great to read from the Beast's point of view. This is definitely a book that should be on everyone's "To Read List."

I was a beast.
I stared into the mirror. I was an animal-not quite wolf or bear or gorilla or dog, but some horrible species that walked upright, that was almost human, yet not. Fangs grew from my mouth, my fingers were clawed, and hair grew from every pore. I, who'd looked down on people with zits or halitosis, was a monster. (47)
