Even better the second time around! What an epic adventure filled with unforgettable characters. Yes, the beginning is a bit slow but by the time the Council of Elrond rolls around, boy has it picked up. Fans of the movies mist read these amazing books!

I can't believe how long it took me to start this series. I heard about it, but I never thought it would interest me - but I stand corrected. I liked The Hobbit better, but then again it's the first book I read. The writing flows really well, and it's easy to read. This is what I wish I could write like.

Great book, the reader does a great job. Only issue is the first few disks are scratched/skipped so I had to just listen to the last half of the book. Hope

Slow but very well written. Classic fantasy done darn right. However, I prefer more gritty fantasy like A Song of Ice and Fire!

A little slow to read, but worth the wait. Great book!

This book is AMAZING! It's super well written with really great details and everything happening is super vivid. It's a pretty slow book, but it still has me hooked on until the very end. It has much more details than in the movies, read it and you won't regret!

It took me forever to read. To tell the truth I expected more but in general I would agree that this is a good book for fantasy lovers. It's really easy to understand and is suitable for all ages. The story is a pretty slow but its a good book to have under your belt.

Do yourself a favor and read this. You won't regret it.

The book gets off to a slow start, mostly due to a long and seemingly unnecessary detour with Tom Bombadil. But once our adventurers get passed that, the book takes off.

If you haven't read this genre-spawning epic work of creation, you can't really call yourself a reader of books. "Too slow," you say? "There's a movie," you say? Forsooth. For shame. Turn in your library card and be gone, back to the pit that spawned you. You really need to read this trilogy to understand how good modern literature can be. In all the annals of fiction, there is no better example of world-building and myth-creating and sheer depth than the Lord of the Rings trilogy. These three books cannot be missed.

I found out when I read the book, that The Lord of the Rings isn't actually three books, but one book comprised of three volumes. (The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King).

My all time favorite book, even better than the Twilight Saga.

The suspense keeps building as we get to see our old friends Bilbo & Gandalf and meet new friends like Frodo, Merry, Pippin & Aragorn as they and we learn more about this mysterious ring (that Bilbo found in the Hobbit) and get to go on another exciting adventure!

I really like the addition of Alan Lee's Artwork.
