A warm embrace of a book. The various protagonists were utterly loveable. Creative concept. Beautifully paced. I spent a half day pulled in by the plot line unable to put down this book.
Hope this debut novel will be followed by more!

A beautiful bold committed reading of key female characters in tanach.
Brandes is both iconoclastic at the same time very committed to tradition.

If you liked this book, consider listening to the Podcast "Adventures with Dead Jews" with Dara Horn.
Its disturbing, but thought provoking. Given its disturbing message, it is odd that the tone is rather flippant at times. I guess, "that's entertainment".
All in all a solid intriguing podcast. I'm going to guess that many of the stories told will be entirely new, or very familiar but with a radically different perspective.
The podcast is , delivered by Ms. Horn herself. This may be a strength. Though, not all authors have the most appealing speaking voices...If you liked this book, consider listening to the Podcast "Adventures with Dead Jews" with Dara Horn.

It certain was a gripping read.
Murder and torture and unsavory characters are the life blood of thrillers. So it is with this novel. However, the attitude of the author towards the protagonist made me question her personal morality.

Not worth the ink and paper used to bring the book to print.
Publishers give a wide berth to celebrities who write their memoirs. They know that our gossip seeking souls crave to hear the what the rich and famous think of their own lives. Too often the autobiographies of celebrities are quite the disappointment.
This book is not even a well thought out autobiography or a biography but Rickman’s disjointed diary entries. I will admit that I did not do more than peruse the book. It was the mundane, trite, meaningless thoughts of a B movie actor and it reeked of anger, arrogance and hatred of things he had no knowledge of.
The very act of bringing these meandering snippets of boring details to a publisher is egoism supreme. Even though posthumously published, I suspect the self-absorbed journal writer was very much in favour of its publication and probably wrote to that purpose. Not worth the ink and paper used to bring the book to print.

In my opinion, the best one of the series yet.
It needed to be read with care and slowly.
Excited that the next book in the series is at Markham waiting for me to pick up!

I listened to the first few paragraphs on a book on CD. Vile, and trashy dialogue of young boys ensued. What kind of person writes garbage like this. I cant imagine anything redeeming in a book that leads with such empty crassness.

The 1773 Boston Tea party was an act of defiance that led to the bringing down of the British rule in America. Fast forward 250 years and be astonished by the amount of "tea that is spilled" by Tina Brown about the British Royal family ( to what end?)
Many of the stories are familiar, but they are told with such detail, one might think that Brown is an Animagus who turned into a fly on many walls. The most damaging gossip shared is not about the usual suspects- Meghan, Andrew. Fergie, Diana or Harry but about the Queen and the current King.

I really enjoyed The Circle. To me it seemed as complete as a circle. What more could the author say to develop this dystopian plot to further sound a warning of a rapidly centralizing big brother watching you world?
For me, he should have left well enough alone. The protagonist had no vividness to her, the plot was repetitive and required to much of a suspension of belief.I really enjoyed The Circle. This book is a novel with "Pride and Prejudice" as its basis, focusing on middle sister Mary.
In P & P Austen favours Elizabeth as the hero with Jane a close second and their dad seen as a reasonable man with an impossible wife and two silly daughters in Lydia and Kitty; additionally, Austen herself sets up Mary as a character for her readers to comfortably mock for her seriousness and studiousness.
In "The Other Bennett Sister", we hear the story of Mary. The spotlight is off Elizabeth, Jane, Darcy and Bingley. The cruelty of, not only Mrs Bennet is emphasized, but of Mr. Bennet as well. In fact, Jane Austen's unfounded ill treatment of her own character Mary comes to light in this adaptation.
The book is excellently written with striking emotional ups and downs. I enjoyed it on a book on CD in my car and found it a treat to listen to each time I drove.
I was excited to find out the ending, but was equally sad when the experience of reading this wonderful novel was over. I will never be able to read or see an adaptation of P and P again without thinking of this wonderful spin on the story. This book is a novel with "Pride and Prejudice" as its basis, focusing on middle sister Mary.

It was a very engaging read. However the end was most unsatisfactory as though the author gave up and tied the whole thing up with melodrama
and the protagonist having an inexplicable character reversal. Suddenly she heaps on one tragedy after another. And although this was a fictionalization of the Dionne quints story the criminal implication made against an actual person was most inappropriate.
